The Gateway To The West<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
An embodiment of the Wild West, the famous Dodge City was a true frontier settlement and a landmark among the vast cattle ranches that made up the American Midwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Early in American history, cattle were driven by the thousand from Mexico, through Texas, and into Kansas. The influx of cattle gave rise to a thriving stockyard industry in Dodge City. By the time the Santa Fe Train opened in 1821, the settlement was dubbed the “Gateway to The West”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the next century, Dodge City would earn a new nickname: the “Cowboy Capital of the West”. New methods of transportation and the introduction of boxed beef led to even more feedlots and ranches in Dodge City, and most of the region\u2019s farming was dedicated to growing grain to feed cattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, meat packing is still the primary industry in Dodge City. National Beef^{\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0is one of the largest employers in the area and prides itself in being an active leader in the community. Farming and raising cattle continue to thrive as a way of life for many of the residents in this historic American town.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html><\/div>\n\n\n\n}
