As the Wild West was settled, cattlemen flocked to the plains and pastures that made up where Liberal, Kansas stands today. With wide, open space for their herds to graze and grow, Liberal became a new settlement in a wild, untamed America. As an integral community for these ranchers, Liberal allowed them to process and ship beef from a central, convenient location.
With continued advancements in transportation and increased demand for boxed beef, even more feedlots and ranches opened in Liberal. Soon, most of the surrounding farmland was dedicated entirely to growing grain to support the booming cattle industry.
Today, Liberal remains a hub of the meatpacking industry. As one of the largest employers in the area, National Beef® is an active community leader that works to continue the town’s legacy of farming and cattle raising that’s still alive and well today.

National Beef’s Dodge City plant ships chilled boxed beef to customers in Japan and around the world. As our highest-volume processing facility, Dodge City is operated by an experienced team dedicated to producing a trusted supply of consistent, high-quality beef to meet our customers’ specifications.
Our Dodge City facility is outfitted with the latest in beef processing technology, including an automated material handling system that ensures the quality and freshness of our chilled boxed beef. Our proprietary Biologic® Food Safety System integrated into the plant includes employee training, a zone system, processing interventions, and control and assessment checks to ensure cleaner, safer beef.
